Cookies
Cookie policy
Which cookies this site sets, which ones other companies set through it, what each one is for, and how to refuse or withdraw consent — in that order, because the last part is the one people actually come here for.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Some are set by us, and some are set by other companies whose code runs on our pages. This page explains which is which, what each kind is for, and how to change or withdraw your choices at any time.
Cookies we set
Essential
Required for the site to function: signing you in, keeping your session secure, and remembering the cookie choice you made on this page. These do not require your consent and cannot be switched off, because without them the service does not work.
Preferences
Remember settings such as your display currency, timezone and theme.
Analytics
Help us understand which pages are read and where people get stuck, so we can improve them. These are set through Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager, and are only set if you consent. If you refuse, they are not set.
Advertising cookies, set by Google and its partners
The blog at ledgertouch.com/blog is funded in part by display advertising served by Google AdSense. No advertising is shown inside your signed-in portfolio workspace, and no information about your holdings, transactions or account is used to select any advertisement anywhere.
Status: advertising is not running on the site yet. This section was written before the first advertisement appeared rather than after it, so that nothing here is ever out of date in the direction that flatters us.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites. These cookies are also used to limit how often you see the same advertisement, to detect invalid clicks and fraud, and to measure whether an advertisement was seen.
Where advertising is personalised, the advertisement you see is chosen using a profile built from your browsing across many sites, not just this one. Where it is non-personalised, it is chosen from context — roughly, the page you are on and your approximate location — and non-personalised ads still use cookies for frequency capping, fraud detection and measurement.
Who the third parties are
Analytics and advertising on this site are handled by Google (Google Ireland Limited for users in the UK, EEA and Switzerland). Google in turn works with other advertising technology providers. Google explains what it does with the data at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
How to change or withdraw your consent
You can change your mind at any time, and it is exactly as easy as saying yes was.
- On this site: the button above reopens the same dialog you saw on your first visit. If you withdraw consent, the cookies set under it stop being used.
- Across all Google services: you can turn off ad personalisation for your Google account or browser at Google Ads Settings.
- Across many other advertising companies at once: aboutads.info/choices and optout.networkadvertising.org.
Refusing advertising and analytics cookies does not reduce your access to anything on this site. There is no cookie wall, and no content is withheld from readers who decline.
Browser-level controls
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most offer a setting to block third-party cookies entirely. Doing so is a valid way to refuse advertising and analytics cookies. Blocking essential cookies will stop you being able to sign in.
Changes to this page
If we add an advertising or analytics provider, or change what an existing one does, we will update this page and ask for your consent again before the change takes effect.
